اِنَّ ہٰۤؤُلَآءِ یُحِبُّوۡنَ الۡعَاجِلَۃَ وَ یَذَرُوۡنَ وَرَآءَہُمۡ یَوۡمًا ثَقِیۡلًا ﴿۲۷﴾ نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنٰہُمۡ وَ شَدَدۡنَاۤ اَسۡرَہُمۡ ۚ وَ اِذَا شِئۡنَا بَدَّلۡنَاۤ اَمۡثَالَہُمۡ تَبۡدِیۡلًا ﴿۲۸﴾ اِنَّ ہٰذِہٖ تَذۡکِرَۃٌ ۚ فَمَنۡ شَآءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰی رَبِّہٖ سَبِیۡلًا ﴿۲۹﴾ وَ مَا تَشَآءُوۡنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یَّشَآءَ اللّٰہُ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ کَانَ عَلِیۡمًا حَکِیۡمًا ﴿٭ۖ۳۰﴾ یُّدۡخِلُ مَنۡ یَّشَآءُ فِیۡ رَحۡمَتِہٖ ؕ وَ الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ اَعَدَّ لَہُمۡ عَذَابًا اَلِیۡمًا ﴿٪۳۱﴾

یہ لوگ تو جلدی حاصل ہونے والی چیز ﴿دُنیا﴾ سے محبت رکھتے ہیں اور آگے جو بھاری دن آنے والا ہے اسے نظر انداز کر دیتے ہیں³¹۔ ہم نے ہی اِن کو پیدا کیا ہے اور ان کے جوڑ بند مضبوط کیے ہیں، اور ہم جب چاہیں اِن کی شکلوں کو بدل کر رکھ دیں³²۔ یہ ایک نصیحت ہے ، اب جس کا جی چاہے اپنے ربّ کی طرف جانے کا راستہ اختیار کر لے۔ اور تمہارے چاہنے سے کچھ نہیں ہوتا جب تک کہ اللہ نہ چاہے³³۔ یقیناً اللہ بڑا علیم و حکیم ہے، اپنی رحمت میں جس کو چاہتا ہے داخل کرتا ہے، اور ظالموں کے لیے اس نے دردناک عذاب تیار کر رکھا ہے³⁴۔ ؏۲

Surah Ad-Dahr (Al-Insan) 76:26-31 — Translation and Commentary

“Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate [life of this world] and leave behind them a grave Day. We created them and strengthened their joints, and when We will, We can change their forms entirely. Indeed, this is a reminder; so whoever wills may take a path to his Lord. And you do not will except that Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing, Wise. He admits whom He wills into His mercy, and for the wrongdoers He has prepared a painful punishment.” (76:27-31)

These people love that which is quickly obtained [this world], and disregard the heavy Day that lies ahead. It is We who created them and made their joints strong, and whenever We will, We can change their forms entirely. This is a reminder; now whoever wishes may take the path leading to his Lord. And your wishing accomplishes nothing unless Allah wills it. Indeed, Allah is greatly Knowing and Wise; He admits into His mercy whomever He wills, and for the wrongdoers He has prepared a painful punishment.

Footnote 31

That is, the reason why these disbelievers of Quraysh persist in their moral and doctrinal errors, and the reason their ears have become deaf to your call to truth, is in fact their worldliness and their carefree indifference toward the Hereafter. For this reason, the path of a true believer in God is so entirely distinct from their path that there is no question whatsoever of any reconciliation between the two.

The actual words are idha shi’na baddalna amthalahum tabdila (“when We will, We can change their forms entirely”). This phrase can carry several meanings. One is that whenever We will, We can destroy them and bring others of their own kind in their place, who would differ from them in character. Another is that whenever We will, We can alter their forms — that is, just as We can make someone healthy and sound of limb, We are equally able to cause someone to become paralyzed, or struck by facial paralysis, or disabled through illness or accident. A third is that whenever We will, We can recreate them after death in some other form.

31۔ یعنی یہ کفار قریش جس وجہ سے اخلاق اور عقائد کی گمراہیوں پر مصر ہیں، اور جس بنا پر آپ کی دعوتِ حق کے لیے ان کے کان بہرے ہو گئے ہیں، وہ دراصل ان کی دنیا پرستی اور آخرت سے بے فکری و بے نیازی ہے۔ اس لیے ایک سچے خدا پرست انسان کا راستہ ان کے راستے سے اتنا الگ ہے کہ دونوں کے د رمیان کسی مصالحت کا سرے سے کوئی سوال ہی پیدا نہیں ہوتا۔

32۔ اصل الفاظ ہیں اذا شنا بدلنا امثالھم تبدیلاً۔ اس فقرے کے کئی معنی ہو سکتے ہیں۔ایک یہ کہ ہم جب چاہیں انہیں ہلاک کر کے انہی کے جنس کے دوسرے لوگ ان کی جگہ لا سکتے ہیں جو اپنے کردار میں ان سے مختلف ہوں گے۔ دوسرے یہ کہ ہم جب چاہیں ان کی شکلیں تبدیل کر سکتے ہیں، یعنی جس طرح ہم کسی کو تندرست اور سلیم الاعضاء بنا سکتے ہیں اسی طرح ہم اس پر بھی قادر ہیں کہ کسی کو مفلوج کر دیں، کسی کو لقوہ مار جائے اور کوئی کسی بیماری یا حادثے کا شکار ہو کر اپاہج ہو جائے۔ تیسرے یہ کہ ہم جب چاہیں موت کے بعد ان کو دوبارہ کسی اور شکل میں پیدا کر سکتے ہیں۔
