Name: It is derived from the phrase in verse 28, wa qāla rajulun mu’minun min āli Fir’awn (“And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh said…”), i.e., this is the surah in which the mention of that particular believer occurs.

Period of Revelation: Ibn Abbas and Jabir ibn Zayd state that this surah was revealed immediately after Surah Az-Zumar, and its position in the current arrangement of the Qur’an corresponds to the order of revelation as well.

Historical Background: The circumstances under which this surah was revealed are clearly indicated within its content. The disbelievers of Makkah had at that time launched two kinds of campaigns against the Prophet (peace be upon him). First, by stirring up disputes and arguments on every side, raising all sorts of absurd questions, and levelling ever-new accusations, they sought to create so much doubt and suspicion in people’s hearts about the Qur’an’s teaching, the call to Islam, and the Prophet himself, that in the process of clearing them up the Prophet and the believers would eventually be worn down. Second, they were preparing the ground to have him killed. For this purpose they were continuously plotting, and on one occasion they actually put such a plot into action. In Bukhari, it is narrated on the authority of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As that one day the Prophet was praying in the Haram. Suddenly Uqbah ibn Abi Mu’ayt came forward, threw a cloth around his neck, and began twisting it to strangle him, but Abu Bakr arrived just in time and pushed the assailant away. Abdullah relates that while Abu Bakr was struggling with that oppressor, he kept repeating the words: “Would you kill a man simply for saying, ‘My Lord is Allah’?” With slight variation, this incident is also recorded in Ibn Hisham’s Sirah, and Nasa’i and Ibn Abi Hatim have also narrated it.

Subject Matter and Themes: Both these aspects of the situation are clearly stated at the very outset of the discourse, and the entire discourse that follows is a highly effective and instructive commentary on them both.

In response to the assassination plots, the story of the believer from Pharaoh’s household is related (verses 23–55), and through this story three different groups are given three distinct lessons:

1. The disbelievers are told that what they wish to do to Muhammad (peace be upon him), Pharaoh, relying on his own power, wished to do to Moses — so do they now, by committing such acts, wish to meet the same end that he met?
2. Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his followers are taught that however dominant and powerful these oppressors may outwardly appear, and however weak and helpless you may be against them, you must be certain that the power of the God whose religion you are working to uphold outweighs every other power. So whatever terrifying threat they may give you, your only response should be to seek refuge in Allah, and then go about your work utterly fearless. The God-fearing person has only one answer to every threat of the oppressor, and that is: “I seek refuge in your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning.” Working fearlessly in this way, trusting in Allah despite the dangers, His help will eventually come, and today’s Pharaohs too will witness what the Pharaohs of the past have already witnessed. Until that time comes, whatever storms of oppression and persecution arise must be endured with patience.
3. Besides these two groups, there was also a third group present in society — those who knew in their hearts that truth was with Muhammad (peace be upon him) and that the disbelieving Quraysh were being utterly unjust, yet despite knowing this, they silently watched this struggle between truth and falsehood as mere spectators. Allah stirs their conscience here, telling them that when the enemies of truth have openly gone so far as to attempt such a grave injustice before their very eyes, it is shameful for them to still sit and merely watch. In such a state, anyone whose conscience is not entirely dead ought to rise and perform the duty that a righteous man among Pharaoh’s own courtiers performed in Pharaoh’s full court, when Pharaoh sought to kill Moses. The same considerations that hold you back from speaking out also stood in that man’s way — yet he cast aside all such considerations, saying “I entrust my affair to Allah,” and after that, see how Pharaoh could not harm him at all.

As for the disbelievers’ polemics, carried on day and night in noble Makkah to discredit the truth — in response, on one hand, arguments are given to establish the truth of the beliefs in the Oneness of God and the Hereafter, which were the actual point of contention between Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the disbelievers, and it is made plain that these people are disputing against the truths without any knowledge or valid argument whatsoever. On the other hand, the real motives behind why the chiefs of Quraysh were so vigorously opposing the Prophet are exposed. Outwardly they had put up the pretence that they had genuine objections to his teaching and his claim of prophethood, which was why they would not accept it. But in reality, for them it was purely a struggle for power. In verse 56, this is stated to them plainly, without any evasion: the real reason for your denial is the arrogance filling your hearts. You think that if people accept Muhammad’s prophethood, your own greatness will not survive. That is why you are exerting every effort to defeat them.

In this connection, the disbelievers are repeatedly warned that if they do not desist from disputing against Allah’s signs, they will meet the same fate that earlier nations met, and an even worse fate awaits them in the Hereafter. At that time you will regret it, but that regret will be of no benefit to you whatsoever.

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

حٰمٓ ۚ﴿۱﴾ تَنۡزِیۡلُ الۡکِتٰبِ مِنَ اللّٰہِ الۡعَزِیۡزِ الۡعَلِیۡمِ ۙ﴿۲﴾ غَافِرِ الذَّنۡۢبِ وَ قَابِلِ التَّوۡبِ شَدِیۡدِ الۡعِقَابِ ۙ ذِی الطَّوۡلِ ؕ لَاۤ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا ہُوَ ؕ اِلَیۡہِ الۡمَصِیۡرُ ﴿۳﴾ مَا یُجَادِلُ فِیۡۤ اٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ اِلَّا الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا فَلَا یَغۡرُرۡکَ تَقَلُّبُہُمۡ فِی الۡبِلَادِ ﴿۴﴾ کَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَہُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوۡحٍ وَّ الۡاَحۡزَابُ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِہِمۡ ۪ وَ ہَمَّتۡ کُلُّ اُمَّۃٍۭ بِرَسُوۡلِہِمۡ لِیَاۡخُذُوۡہُ وَ جٰدَلُوۡا بِالۡبَاطِلِ لِیُدۡحِضُوۡا بِہِ الۡحَقَّ فَاَخَذۡتُہُمۡ ۟ فَکَیۡفَ کَانَ عِقَابِ ﴿۵﴾ وَ کَذٰلِکَ حَقَّتۡ کَلِمَتُ رَبِّکَ عَلَی الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡۤا اَنَّہُمۡ اَصۡحٰبُ النَّارِ ۘ﴿ؔ۶﴾ اَلَّذِیۡنَ یَحۡمِلُوۡنَ الۡعَرۡشَ وَ مَنۡ حَوۡلَہٗ یُسَبِّحُوۡنَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّہِمۡ وَ یُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِہٖ وَ یَسۡتَغۡفِرُوۡنَ لِلَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَسِعۡتَ کُلَّ شَیۡءٍ رَّحۡمَۃً وَّ عِلۡمًا فَاغۡفِرۡ لِلَّذِیۡنَ تَابُوۡا وَ اتَّبَعُوۡا سَبِیۡلَکَ وَ قِہِمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِیۡمِ ﴿۷﴾ رَبَّنَا وَ اَدۡخِلۡہُمۡ جَنّٰتِ عَدۡنِۣ الَّتِیۡ وَعَدۡتَّہُمۡ وَ مَنۡ صَلَحَ مِنۡ اٰبَآئِہِمۡ وَ اَزۡوَاجِہِمۡ وَ ذُرِّیّٰتِہِمۡ ؕ اِنَّکَ اَنۡتَ الۡعَزِیۡزُ الۡحَکِیۡمُ ۙ﴿۸﴾ وَ قِہِمُ السَّیِّاٰتِ ؕ وَ مَنۡ تَقِ السَّیِّاٰتِ یَوۡمَئِذٍ فَقَدۡ رَحِمۡتَہٗ ؕ وَ ذٰلِکَ ہُوَ الۡفَوۡزُ الۡعَظِیۡمُ ٪﴿۹﴾

اللہ کے نام سے جو رحمان و رحیم ہے۔

ح۔م۔ اس کتاب کا نزول اللہ کی طرف سے ہے جو زبردست ہے، سب کچھ جاننے والا ہے، گناہ معاف کرنے والا اور توبہ قبول کرنے والا ہے، سخت سزا دینے والا اور بڑا صاحب فضل ہے۔ کوئی معبود اس کے سوا نہیں، اسے کی طرف سب کو پلٹنا ہے ¹۔
اللہ کی آیات میں جھگڑے ²نہیں کرتے مگر صرف وہ لوگ جنہوں نے کفر کیا ہے ³۔ اس کے بعد دنیا کے ملکوں میں ان کی چلَت پھرت تمہیں کسی دھوکے میں ڈالے ⁴۔ ان سے پہلے نوحؑ کی قوم بھی جھٹلا چکی ہے، اور اس کے بعد بہت سے دوسرے جتھوں نے بھی یہ کام کیا ہے۔ ہر قوم اپنے رسول پر جھپٹی تا کہ اسے گرفتار کرے۔ ان سب نے باطل کے ہتھیاروں سے حق کو نیچا دکھانے کی کوشش کی۔ مگر آخر کار میں نے ان کو پکڑ لیا، پھر دیکھ لو کہی میری سزا کیسی سخت تھی۔ اسی طرح تیرے رب کا یہ فیصلہ بھی ان سب لوگوں پر چسپاں ہوچکا ہے جو کفر کے مرتکب ہوئے ہیں کہ وہ واصل جہنم ہونے والے ہیں ⁵۔ 
عرش الٰہی کے حامل فرشتے اور وہ جو عرش کے گرد و پیش حاضر رہتے ہیں، سب اپنے رب کی حمد کے ساتھ اس کی تسبیح کر رہے ہیں۔ وہ اس پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں اور ایمان لانے والوں دے حق میں دعائے مغفرت کرتے ہیں ⁶۔ وہ کہتے ہیں : ’’ اے ہمارے رب، تو اپنی رحمت اور اپنے علم کے ساتھ ہر چیز پر چھایا ہوا ہے ⁷، پس معاف کر دے اور عذاب دوزخ سے بچا لے ⁸ ان لوگوں کو جنہوں نے توبہ کی ہے اور تیرا راستہ اختیار کر لیا ہے ⁹۔ اے ہمارے رب، اور داخل کر ان کو ہمیشہ رہنے والی ان جنتوں میں جن کا تو نے ان سے وعدہ کیا ہے ¹⁰ ، اور اُن کے والدین، بیویوں اور اولاد میں سے جو صالح ہوں (جنت میں پہنچا دے¹¹) تو بلا شبہ قادر مطلق اور حکیم ہے۔اور بچا دے ان کو برائیوں سے ¹²۔ جس کو تو نے قیامت کے دن برائیوں سے ¹³بچا دیا اس پر تو نے بڑا رحم کیا، یہی بڑی کامیابی ہے۔‘‘ع

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Ha-Mim. The revelation of this Book is from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Knowing, the Forgiver of sin and Acceptor of repentance, Severe in punishment, Owner of great bounty. None dispute concerning the signs of Allah² except those who have disbelieved.³ So do not let their movement about in the land deceive you.⁴ Before them, the people of Noah likewise denied, and after them many other factions did the same. Every nation set upon its messenger to seize him, and all of them sought, through the weapons of falsehood, to overcome the truth. But in the end I seized them — then see how severe was My punishment! Those who bear the Throne, and those around it, glorify their Lord with His praise, believe in Him, and seek forgiveness for those who believe.⁶ They say: “Our Lord, You encompass all things in mercy and knowledge,⁷ so forgive and save from the punishment of the Blazing Fire⁸ those who repent and follow Your way.⁹ Our Lord, admit them into the everlasting Gardens which You have promised them,¹⁰ and admit also the righteous among their fathers, spouses, and offspring.¹¹ Indeed, You are the Almighty, the All-Wise. And protect them from evils,¹² for whoever You protect from evils¹³ on the Day of Resurrection — upon him You have bestowed great mercy, and that is the supreme success.”

CHAPTER: 40 EXPLANATORY FOOTNOTE # 6-13

اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا یُنَادَوۡنَ لَمَقۡتُ اللّٰہِ اَکۡبَرُ مِنۡ مَّقۡتِکُمۡ اَنۡفُسَکُمۡ اِذۡ تُدۡعَوۡنَ اِلَی الۡاِیۡمَانِ فَتَکۡفُرُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰﴾ قَالُوۡا رَبَّنَاۤ اَمَتَّنَا اثۡنَتَیۡنِ وَ اَحۡیَیۡتَنَا اثۡنَتَیۡنِ فَاعۡتَرَفۡنَا بِذُنُوۡبِنَا فَہَلۡ اِلٰی خُرُوۡجٍ مِّنۡ سَبِیۡلٍ ﴿۱۱﴾ ذٰلِکُمۡ بِاَنَّہٗۤ اِذَا دُعِیَ اللّٰہُ وَحۡدَہٗ کَفَرۡتُمۡ ۚ وَ اِنۡ یُّشۡرَکۡ بِہٖ تُؤۡمِنُوۡا ؕ فَالۡحُکۡمُ لِلّٰہِ الۡعَلِیِّ الۡکَبِیۡرِ ﴿۱۲﴾ ہُوَ الَّذِیۡ یُرِیۡکُمۡ اٰیٰتِہٖ وَ یُنَزِّلُ لَکُمۡ مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ رِزۡقًا ؕ وَ مَا یَتَذَکَّرُ اِلَّا مَنۡ یُّنِیۡبُ ﴿۱۳﴾ فَادۡعُوا اللّٰہَ مُخۡلِصِیۡنَ لَہُ الدِّیۡنَ وَ لَوۡ کَرِہَ الۡکٰفِرُوۡنَ ﴿۱۴﴾ رَفِیۡعُ الدَّرَجٰتِ ذُو الۡعَرۡشِ ۚ یُلۡقِی الرُّوۡحَ مِنۡ اَمۡرِہٖ عَلٰی مَنۡ یَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِہٖ لِیُنۡذِرَ یَوۡمَ التَّلَاقِ ﴿ۙ۱۵﴾ یَوۡمَ ہُمۡ بٰرِزُوۡنَ ۬ۚ لَا یَخۡفٰی عَلَی اللّٰہِ مِنۡہُمۡ شَیۡءٌ ؕ لِمَنِ الۡمُلۡکُ الۡیَوۡمَ ؕ لِلّٰہِ الۡوَاحِدِ الۡقَہَّارِ ﴿۱۶﴾ اَلۡیَوۡمَ تُجۡزٰی کُلُّ نَفۡسٍۭ بِمَا کَسَبَتۡ ؕ لَا ظُلۡمَ الۡیَوۡمَ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ سَرِیۡعُ الۡحِسَابِ ﴿۱۷﴾ وَ اَنۡذِرۡہُمۡ یَوۡمَ الۡاٰزِفَۃِ اِذِ الۡقُلُوۡبُ لَدَی الۡحَنَاجِرِ کٰظِمِیۡنَ ۬ؕ مَا لِلظّٰلِمِیۡنَ مِنۡ حَمِیۡمٍ وَّ لَا شَفِیۡعٍ یُّطَاعُ ﴿ؕ۱۸﴾ یَعۡلَمُ خَآئِنَۃَ الۡاَعۡیُنِ وَ مَا تُخۡفِی الصُّدُوۡرُ ﴿۱۹﴾ وَ اللّٰہُ یَقۡضِیۡ بِالۡحَقِّ ؕ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ یَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ لَا یَقۡضُوۡنَ بِشَیۡءٍ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ ہُوَ السَّمِیۡعُ الۡبَصِیۡرُ ﴿٪۲۰﴾

جن لوگوں نے کفر کیا ہے، قیامت کے روز ان کو پکار کر کہا جائے گا ’’ آج تمہیں جتنا شدید غصہ اپنے اوپر آ رہا ہے، اللہ تم پر اس سے زیادہ غضب ناک اس وقت ہوتا تھا جب تمہیں ایمان کی طرف بلایا جاتا تھا اور تم کفر کرتے تھے ‘‘¹⁴۔ دیکھیں گے ’’ اے ہمارے رب، تو نے واقعی ہمیں دو دفعہ موت اور دو دفعہ زندگی دے دی،¹⁵ اب ہم اپنے قصوروں کا اعتراف کرتے ہیں ¹⁶، کیا اب یہاں سے نکلنے کی بھی کوئی سبیل ہے ‘‘؟¹⁷(جواب ملے گا) یہ حالت جس میں تم مبتلا ہو، اس وجہ سے ہے کہ جب اکیلے اللہ کی طرف بلایا جاتا تھا تو تم ماننے سے انکار کر دیتے تھے اور جب اس کے ساتھ دوسروں کو ملایا جاتا تو تم مان لیتے تھے۔ اب فیصلہ اللہ بزرگ و برتر کے ہاتھ ہے ¹⁸۔ 
وہی ہے جو تم کو اپنی نشانیاں دکھاتا ہے ¹⁹ اور آسمان سے تمہارے لیے رزق نازل کرتا ہے ²⁰، مگر (اِن نشانیوں کے مشاہدے سے ) سبق صرف وہی شخص لیتا ہے جو اللہ کی طرف رجوع کرنے والا ہو²¹۔ (پس اے رجوع کرنے والو) اللہ ہی کو پکارو اپنے دین کو اس کے لیے خالص کر کے ²²، خواہ تمہارا یہ فعل کافروں کو کتنا ہی ناگوار ہو۔ 
وہ بلید درجوں والا²³، مالک عرش ہے ²⁴۔ اپنے بندوں میں سے جس پر چاہتا ہے اپنے حکم سے روح نازل کر دیتا ہے ²⁵ تاکہ وہ ملاقات کے دن ²⁶سے خبردار کر دے۔ وہ دن جبکہ سب لوگ بت پردہ ہوں گے، اللہ سے ان کی کوئی بات بھی چھپی ہوئی نہ ہو گی۔ (اس روز پکار کر پوچھا جائے گا ) آج بادشاہی کس کی ہے؟²⁷ (سارا عالم پکار اٹھے گا) اللہ واحد قہار کی۔ (کہا جائے گا) آج ہر متنفس کو اس کمائی کابد لہ دیا جائے گا جو اس نے کی تھی۔ آج کسی پر کوئی ظلم نہ ہو گا²⁸۔ اور اللہ حساب لینے میں بہت تیز ہے ²⁹۔ اے نبیؐ، ڈرا دو ان لوگوں کو اس دن سے جو قریب آ لگا ہے ³⁰۔ جب کلیجے منہ کو آ رہے ہوں گے اور لوگ چپ چاپ غم کے گھونٹ پیے کھڑے ہونگے۔ ظالموں کا نہ کوئی مشفق دوست ہو گا³¹ اور نہ کوئی شفیع جس کی بات مانی جائے ³²۔ اللہ نگاہوں کی چوری تک سے واقف ہے اور سہ راز تک جانتا ہے جو سینوں نے چھپا رکھے ہیں۔ اور اللہ ٹھیک ٹھیک بے لاگ فیصلہ کریگا۔ رہے وہ جن کو (یہ مشرکین) اللہ کو چھوڑ کر پکارتے ہیں، وہ کسی چیز کا بھی فیصلہ کرنے والے نہیں ہیں۔ بلاشبہ اللہ ہی سب کچھ سننے اور دیکھنے والا ہے ³³۔ع

Those who disbelieved will be called out to on the Day of Resurrection: “The intensity of anger you feel against yourselves today is nothing compared to how much more intensely Allah was angered when you were called to faith and you persisted in disbelief.“¹⁴ They will say: “Our Lord, You have given us death twice and life twice,¹⁵ and now we confess our sins¹⁶ — is there then any way out?“¹⁷ (The answer will come:) This condition you are in is because when Allah alone was invoked, you refused to believe, but when others were associated with Him, you believed. So now the judgment rests with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.¹⁸

CHAPTER: 40 EXPLANATORY FOOTNOTE # 14-18

He is the One who shows you His signs¹⁹ and sends down provision for you from the sky,²⁰ but only one who turns to Allah takes a lesson (from observing these signs).²¹ (So, O you who turn to Him,) call upon Allah alone, making your faith sincerely His,²² however unpleasant this may be to the disbelievers.

CHAPTER: 40 EXPLANATORY FOOTNOTE #19-22

He is the Exalted in degree,²³ Lord of the Throne.²⁴ He sends down the Spirit by His command upon whichever of His servants He wills,²⁵ so that he may warn of the Day of Meeting²⁶ — the Day when everyone will emerge from concealment, and nothing about them will be hidden from Allah. (On that day it will be called out:) “To whom does sovereignty belong today?“²⁷ (The whole creation will cry out:) “To Allah, the One, the Overpowering.” (It will be said:) “Today every soul is repaid for what it earned. No injustice will be done today.“²⁸ And Allah is swift in reckoning.²⁹

CHAPTER: 40 EXPLANATORY FOOTNOTE #23-29

O Prophet, warn people of the Day that is drawing near,³⁰ when hearts will leap up to the throats, and people will stand choking on their grief in silence. The wrongdoers will have neither a compassionate friend³¹ nor an intercessor whose word would be heeded.³² Allah knows even the stealthy glance of the eyes and all that the hearts conceal. And Allah will judge with perfect justice. As for those whom these polytheists invoke besides Allah, they can decide nothing at all. Indeed, it is Allah alone who hears and sees everything.³³

اَوَ لَمۡ یَسِیۡرُوۡا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَیَنۡظُرُوۡا کَیۡفَ کَانَ عَاقِبَۃُ الَّذِیۡنَ کَانُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِمۡ ؕ کَانُوۡا ہُمۡ اَشَدَّ مِنۡہُمۡ قُوَّۃً وَّ اٰثَارًا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَاَخَذَہُمُ اللّٰہُ بِذُنُوۡبِہِمۡ ؕ وَ مَا کَانَ لَہُمۡ مِّنَ اللّٰہِ مِنۡ وَّاقٍ ﴿۲۱﴾ ذٰلِکَ بِاَنَّہُمۡ کَانَتۡ تَّاۡتِیۡہِمۡ رُسُلُہُمۡ بِالۡبَیِّنٰتِ فَکَفَرُوۡا فَاَخَذَہُمُ اللّٰہُ ؕ اِنَّہٗ قَوِیٌّ شَدِیۡدُ الۡعِقَابِ ﴿۲۲﴾ وَ لَقَدۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوۡسٰی بِاٰیٰتِنَا وَ سُلۡطٰنٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ﴿ۙ۲۳﴾ اِلٰی فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَ ہَامٰنَ وَ قَارُوۡنَ فَقَالُوۡا سٰحِرٌ کَذَّابٌ ﴿۲۴﴾ فَلَمَّا جَآءَہُمۡ بِالۡحَقِّ مِنۡ عِنۡدِنَا قَالُوا اقۡتُلُوۡۤا اَبۡنَآءَ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مَعَہٗ وَ اسۡتَحۡیُوۡا نِسَآءَہُمۡ ؕ وَ مَا کَیۡدُ الۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ اِلَّا فِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ ﴿۲۵﴾ وَ قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ذَرُوۡنِیۡۤ اَقۡتُلۡ مُوۡسٰی وَ لۡیَدۡعُ رَبَّہٗ ۚ اِنِّیۡۤ اَخَافُ اَنۡ یُّبَدِّلَ دِیۡنَکُمۡ اَوۡ اَنۡ یُّظۡہِرَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ الۡفَسَادَ ﴿۲۶﴾ وَ قَالَ مُوۡسٰۤی اِنِّیۡ عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّیۡ وَ رَبِّکُمۡ مِّنۡ کُلِّ مُتَکَبِّرٍ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُ بِیَوۡمِ الۡحِسَابِ ﴿٪۲۷﴾

کیا یہ لوگ کبھی زمین میں چلے پھرے نہیں ہیں کہ انہیں ان لوگوں کا انجام نظر آتا جو ان سے پہلے گزر چکے ہیں؟ وہ ان زیادہ طاقت ور تھے اور ان سے زیادہ زبردست آثار زمین میں چھوڑ گئے ہیں۔ مگر اللہ نے ان کے گناہوں پر انہیں پکڑ لیا اور ان کو اللہ سے بچانے والا کوئی نہ تھا۔ یہ ان کا انجام اس لیے ہوا کہ ان کے پاس ان کے رسول بینات³⁴ لے کر آئے اور انہوں نے ماننے سے انکار کر دیا۔ آخر کار اللہ نے ان کو پکڑ لیا، یقیناً وہ بڑی قوت والا اور سزا دینے میں بہت سخت ہے۔ ہم نے موسیٰ³⁵ کو فرعون اور ہامان³⁶ اور قارون کی طرف اپنے نشانیوں اور نمایاں سندِ ماموریت³⁷کے ساتھ بھیجا، مگر انہوں نے کہا “”ساحر ہے، کذاب ہے ‘‘۔ پھر جب وہ ہماری طرف سے حق ان کے سامنے لے آیا³⁸تو انہوں نے کہا’’ جو لوگ ایمان لا کر اس کے ساتھ شامل ہوئے ہیں ان سب کے لڑکوں کو قتل کرو اور لڑکیاں کو جیتا چھوڑ دو‘‘³⁹۔ مگر کافروں کی چال اکارت ہی گئی ⁴⁰
ایک روز⁴¹ فرعون نے اپنے درباریوں سے کہا’’ چھوڑو مجھے، میں اس موسیٰ کو قتل کیے دیتا ہوں ⁴²، اور پکار دیکھے یہ اپنے رب کو۔ مجھ اندیشہ ہے کہ یہ تمہارا دین بدل ڈالے گا، یا ملک میں فساد برپا کرے گا‘‘⁴³۔
موسیٰ نے کہا ’’ میں نے تو ہر اس متکبّر کے مقابلے میں جو یَوم الحساب پر ایمان نہیں رکھتا اپنے ر ب اور تمہارے رب کی پناہ لے لی ہے ‘‘⁴⁴۔ع

Have these people never travelled through the land that they might see what became of those who came before them? They were greater than them in strength and left behind more impressive traces in the land, yet Allah seized them for their sins, and there was no one to save them from Allah. This was their fate because their messengers had come to them with clear signs³⁴ and they refused to believe. In the end, Allah seized them — indeed, He is Mighty, Severe in punishment.

We sent Moses³⁵ with Our signs and manifest authority³⁷ to Pharaoh, Haman,³⁶ and Qarun, but they said, “He is a sorcerer, a liar.” Then when he brought them the truth from Us,³⁸ they said, “Kill the sons of those who have believed and joined him, and let their daughters live.“³⁹ But the scheming of the disbelievers came to nothing.⁴⁰

One day⁴¹ Pharaoh said to his courtiers, “Let me kill this Moses,⁴² and let him call upon his Lord. I fear that he will change your religion, or that he will spread corruption in the land.“⁴³

Moses said, “I have indeed sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning.“⁴⁴

CHAPTER: 40 EXPLANATORY FOOTNOTE #34-44

وَ قَالَ رَجُلٌ مُّؤۡمِنٌ ٭ۖ مِّنۡ اٰلِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ یَکۡتُمُ اِیۡمَانَہٗۤ اَتَقۡتُلُوۡنَ رَجُلًا اَنۡ یَّقُوۡلَ رَبِّیَ اللّٰہُ وَ قَدۡ جَآءَکُمۡ بِالۡبَیِّنٰتِ مِنۡ رَّبِّکُمۡ ؕ وَ اِنۡ یَّکُ کَاذِبًا فَعَلَیۡہِ کَذِبُہٗ ۚ وَ اِنۡ یَّکُ صَادِقًا یُّصِبۡکُمۡ بَعۡضُ الَّذِیۡ یَعِدُکُمۡ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ لَا یَہۡدِیۡ مَنۡ ہُوَ مُسۡرِفٌ کَذَّابٌ ﴿۲۸﴾ یٰقَوۡمِ لَکُمُ الۡمُلۡکُ الۡیَوۡمَ ظٰہِرِیۡنَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ ۫ فَمَنۡ یَّنۡصُرُنَا مِنۡۢ بَاۡسِ اللّٰہِ اِنۡ جَآءَنَا ؕ قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ مَاۤ اُرِیۡکُمۡ اِلَّا مَاۤ اَرٰی وَ مَاۤ اَہۡدِیۡکُمۡ اِلَّا سَبِیۡلَ الرَّشَادِ ﴿۲۹﴾ وَ قَالَ الَّذِیۡۤ اٰمَنَ یٰقَوۡمِ اِنِّیۡۤ اَخَافُ عَلَیۡکُمۡ مِّثۡلَ یَوۡمِ الۡاَحۡزَابِ ﴿ۙ۳۰﴾ مِثۡلَ دَاۡبِ قَوۡمِ نُوۡحٍ وَّ عَادٍ وَّ ثَمُوۡدَ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِہِمۡ ؕ وَ مَا اللّٰہُ یُرِیۡدُ ظُلۡمًا لِّلۡعِبَادِ ﴿۳۱﴾ وَ یٰقَوۡمِ اِنِّیۡۤ اَخَافُ عَلَیۡکُمۡ یَوۡمَ التَّنَادِ ﴿ۙ۳۲﴾ یَوۡمَ تُوَلُّوۡنَ مُدۡبِرِیۡنَ ۚ مَا لَکُمۡ مِّنَ اللّٰہِ مِنۡ عَاصِمٍ ۚ وَ مَنۡ یُّضۡلِلِ اللّٰہُ فَمَا لَہٗ مِنۡ ہَادٍ ﴿۳۳﴾ وَ لَقَدۡ جَآءَکُمۡ یُوۡسُفُ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ بِالۡبَیِّنٰتِ فَمَا زِلۡتُمۡ فِیۡ شَکٍّ مِّمَّا جَآءَکُمۡ بِہٖ ؕ حَتّٰۤی اِذَا ہَلَکَ قُلۡتُمۡ لَنۡ یَّبۡعَثَ اللّٰہُ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِہٖ رَسُوۡلًا ؕ کَذٰلِکَ یُضِلُّ اللّٰہُ مَنۡ ہُوَ مُسۡرِفٌ مُّرۡتَابُۨ ﴿ۚۖ۳۴﴾ الَّذِیۡنَ یُجَادِلُوۡنَ فِیۡۤ اٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ بِغَیۡرِ سُلۡطٰنٍ اَتٰہُمۡ ؕ کَبُرَ مَقۡتًا عِنۡدَ اللّٰہِ وَ عِنۡدَ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا ؕ کَذٰلِکَ یَطۡبَعُ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی کُلِّ قَلۡبِ مُتَکَبِّرٍ جَبَّارٍ ﴿۳۵﴾ وَ قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ یٰہَامٰنُ ابۡنِ لِیۡ صَرۡحًا لَّعَلِّیۡۤ اَبۡلُغُ الۡاَسۡبَابَ ﴿ۙ۳۶﴾ اَسۡبَابَ السَّمٰوٰتِ فَاَطَّلِعَ اِلٰۤی اِلٰہِ مُوۡسٰی وَ اِنِّیۡ لَاَظُنُّہٗ کَاذِبًا ؕ وَ کَذٰلِکَ زُیِّنَ لِفِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوۡٓءُ عَمَلِہٖ وَ صُدَّ عَنِ السَّبِیۡلِ ؕ وَ مَا کَیۡدُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ اِلَّا فِیۡ تَبَابٍ ﴿٪۳۷﴾

اس موقع پر آل فرعون میں سے ایک مومن شخص، جو اپنا ایمان چھپائے ہوئے تھا، بول اٹھا : ’’ کیا تم ایک شخص کو صرف اس بنا پر قتل کر دوگے کہ وہ کہتا ہے میرا رب اللہ ہے؟ حالانکہ وہ تمہارے رب کی طرف سے تمہارے پاس بیّنات لے آیا ⁴⁵۔ اگر وہ جھوٹا ہے تو اس کا جھوٹ خود اسی پر پلٹ پڑے گا⁴⁶۔ لیکن اگر وہ سچا ہے تو جن ہولناک نتائج کا وہ تم کو خوف دلاتا ہے ان میں سے کچھ تو تم پر ضرور ہی آ جائیں گے۔ اللہ کسی شخص کو ہدایت نہیں دیتا جو حد سے گزر جانے والا اور کذّاب ⁴⁷ہو۔ اے میری قوم کے لوگو ! آج تمہیں بادشاہی حاصل ہے اور زمین میں تم غالب ہو، لیکن اگر خدا کا عذاب ہم پر آگیا تو پھر کون ہے جو ہماری مدد کر سکے گا‘‘⁴⁸۔ 
فرعون نے کہا ’’ میں تو تم لوگوں کو وہی رائے دے رہا ہوں جو مجھے مناسب نظر آتی ہے۔ اور میں اسی راستے کی طرف تمہاری رہنمائی کرتا ہوں جو ٹھیک ہے ‘‘⁴⁹۔ 
وہ شخص جو ایمان لایا تھا اس نے کہا ’’ اے میری قوم کے لوگو، مجھے خوف ہے کہ کہیں تم پر بھی وہ دن نہ آ جائے جو اس سے پہلے بہت سے جتھوں پر آ چکا ہے، جیسا دن قوم نوحؑ اور عاد اور ثمود اور ان کے بعد والی قوموں پر آیا تھا۔ اور یہ حقیقت ہے کہ اللہ اپنے بندوں پر ظلم کا کوئی ارادہ نہیں رکھتا⁵⁰۔ اے قوم، مجھ ڈر ہے کہ کہیں تم پر فریاد و فغاں کا دن نہ آ جائے جب تم ایک دوسرے کو پکارو گے اور بھاگے بھاگے پھرو گے، مگر اس وقت اللہ سے بچانے والا کوئی نہ ہو گا۔ سچ یہ ہے کہ جسے اللہ بھٹکا دے اسے پھر کوئ راستہ دکھانے والا نہیں ہوتا۔ اس سے پہلے یوسفؑ تمہارے پاس بینات لے کر آئے تھے مگر تم ان کی لائی ہوئی تعلیم کی طرف سے شک ہی میں پڑے رہے۔ پھر جب ان کا انتقال ہو گیا تو تم نے کہا اب ان کے بعد اللہ کوئی رسول ہر گز نہ بھیجے گا‘‘⁵¹۔ـــــــ⁵² اسے طرح اللہ ان سب لوگوں کو گمراہی میں ڈال دیتا ہے جو حد سے گزرنے والے اور شکی ہوتے ہیں اور اللہ کی آیات میں جھگڑے کرتے ہیں بغیر اس کے کہ ان کے پاس کوئی سند یا دلیل آئی ہو⁵³۔ یہ رویہ اللہ اور ایمان لانے والوں کے نزدیک سخت مبغوض ہے اسی طرح اللہ ہر متکبّر و جبار کے دل پر ٹھپہ لگا دیتا ہے ⁵⁴۔ 
فرعون نے کہا’’ اے ہامان، میرے لیے ایک بلند عمارت بنا تاکہ میں راستوں تک پہنچ سکوں، آسمانوں کے راستوں تک، اور موسیٰ کے خدا کو جھانک کر دیکھوں۔ مجھے تو یہ موسیٰ جھوٹا ہی معلوم ہوتا ہے ‘‘⁵⁵ـــــاس طرح فرعون کے لیے اس کی بد عملی خوشنما بنا دی گئی اور وہ راہ راست روک دیا گیا۔ فرعون کی ساری چال بازی (اس کی اپنی )تباہی کے راستہ ہی میں صرف ہوئی۔ع

At this point a believing man from Pharaoh’s household, who had been concealing his faith, spoke up: “Will you kill a man simply because he says, ‘My Lord is Allah,’ when he has brought you clear signs from your Lord?⁴⁵ If he is lying, his lie will fall back on himself.⁴⁶ But if he is truthful, then some of what he warns you of will certainly befall you. Allah does not guide one who transgresses limits and is a liar.⁴⁷ O my people, today the kingdom is yours, and you are dominant in the land — but who will help us if the punishment of Allah comes upon us?“⁴⁸

Pharaoh said, “I am only showing you what I myself see fit, and I am guiding you only to the right path.“⁴⁹

The man who had believed said, “O my people, I fear for you a day like the days that befell many factions before — like the day that came upon the people of Noah, and Ad, and Thamud, and those after them. And it is a fact that Allah intends no injustice for His servants.⁵⁰ O my people, I fear for you a Day of mutual calling out, when you will call to one another and flee about, but there will be no one to protect you from Allah. Indeed, whomever Allah lets go astray has no guide thereafter. Before this, Joseph came to you with clear signs, but you remained in doubt about what he brought, until when he died, you said, ‘Allah will never send any messenger after him.’“⁵¹ Thus Allah leaves astray whoever transgresses limits and is doubtful, disputing over the signs of Allah without any authority having come to them⁵³ — a stance deeply hateful in the sight of Allah and of the believers. Thus does Allah seal the heart of every arrogant tyrant.⁵⁴

Pharaoh said, “O Haman, build for me a lofty structure that I may reach the pathways — the pathways of the heavens — and look upon the God of Moses, though I truly think Moses is a liar.“⁵⁵ Thus was his evil conduct made fair-seeming to Pharaoh, and he was turned away from the right path. And Pharaoh’s scheming led to nothing but his own ruin.

وَ قَالَ الَّذِیۡۤ اٰمَنَ یٰقَوۡمِ اتَّبِعُوۡنِ اَہۡدِکُمۡ سَبِیۡلَ الرَّشَادِ ﴿ۚ۳۸﴾ یٰقَوۡمِ اِنَّمَا ہٰذِہِ الۡحَیٰوۃُ الدُّنۡیَا مَتَاعٌ ۫ وَّ اِنَّ الۡاٰخِرَۃَ ہِیَ دَارُ الۡقَرَارِ ﴿۳۹﴾ مَنۡ عَمِلَ سَیِّئَۃً فَلَا یُجۡزٰۤی اِلَّا مِثۡلَہَا ۚ وَ مَنۡ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّنۡ ذَکَرٍ اَوۡ اُنۡثٰی وَ ہُوَ مُؤۡمِنٌ فَاُولٰٓئِکَ یَدۡخُلُوۡنَ الۡجَنَّۃَ یُرۡزَقُوۡنَ فِیۡہَا بِغَیۡرِ حِسَابٍ ﴿۴۰﴾ وَ یٰقَوۡمِ مَا لِیۡۤ اَدۡعُوۡکُمۡ اِلَی النَّجٰوۃِ وَ تَدۡعُوۡنَنِیۡۤ اِلَی النَّارِ ﴿ؕ۴۱﴾ تَدۡعُوۡنَنِیۡ لِاَکۡفُرَ بِاللّٰہِ وَ اُشۡرِکَ بِہٖ مَا لَیۡسَ لِیۡ بِہٖ عِلۡمٌ ۫ وَّ اَنَا اَدۡعُوۡکُمۡ اِلَی الۡعَزِیۡزِ الۡغَفَّارِ ﴿۴۲﴾ لَا جَرَمَ اَنَّمَا تَدۡعُوۡنَنِیۡۤ اِلَیۡہِ لَیۡسَ لَہٗ دَعۡوَۃٌ فِی الدُّنۡیَا وَ لَا فِی الۡاٰخِرَۃِ وَ اَنَّ مَرَدَّنَاۤ اِلَی اللّٰہِ وَ اَنَّ الۡمُسۡرِفِیۡنَ ہُمۡ اَصۡحٰبُ النَّارِ ﴿۴۳﴾ فَسَتَذۡکُرُوۡنَ مَاۤ اَقُوۡلُ لَکُمۡ ؕ وَ اُفَوِّضُ اَمۡرِیۡۤ اِلَی اللّٰہِ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ بَصِیۡرٌۢ بِالۡعِبَادِ ﴿۴۴﴾ فَوَقٰىہُ اللّٰہُ سَیِّاٰتِ مَا مَکَرُوۡا وَ حَاقَ بِاٰلِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوۡٓءُ الۡعَذَابِ ﴿ۚ۴۵﴾ اَلنَّارُ یُعۡرَضُوۡنَ عَلَیۡہَا غُدُوًّا وَّ عَشِیًّا ۚ وَ یَوۡمَ تَقُوۡمُ السَّاعَۃُ ۟ اَدۡخِلُوۡۤا اٰلَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ اَشَدَّ الۡعَذَابِ ﴿۴۶﴾ وَ اِذۡ یَتَحَآجُّوۡنَ فِی النَّارِ فَیَقُوۡلُ الضُّعَفٰٓؤُا لِلَّذِیۡنَ اسۡتَکۡبَرُوۡۤا اِنَّا کُنَّا لَکُمۡ تَبَعًا فَہَلۡ اَنۡتُمۡ مُّغۡنُوۡنَ عَنَّا نَصِیۡبًا مِّنَ النَّارِ ﴿۴۷﴾ قَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ اسۡتَکۡبَرُوۡۤا اِنَّا کُلٌّ فِیۡہَاۤ ۙ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ قَدۡ حَکَمَ بَیۡنَ الۡعِبَادِ ﴿۴۸﴾ وَ قَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ فِی النَّارِ لِخَزَنَۃِ جَہَنَّمَ ادۡعُوۡا رَبَّکُمۡ یُخَفِّفۡ عَنَّا یَوۡمًا مِّنَ الۡعَذَابِ ﴿۴۹﴾ قَالُوۡۤا اَوَ لَمۡ تَکُ تَاۡتِیۡکُمۡ رُسُلُکُمۡ بِالۡبَیِّنٰتِ ؕ قَالُوۡا بَلٰی ؕ قَالُوۡا فَادۡعُوۡا ۚ وَ مَا دُعٰٓؤُا الۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ اِلَّا فِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ ﴿٪۵۰﴾

وہ شخص جو ایمان لایا تھا، بولا ’’ اے میری قوم کے لوگو، میری بات مانو، میں تمہیں صحیح راستہ بتاتا ہوں۔ اے قوم، یہ دنیا کی زندگی تو چند روزہ ہے ⁵⁶، ہمیشہ کے قیام کی جگہ آخرت ہی ہے۔ جو برائی کرے گا اس کو اتنا بدلہ ملے گا جتنی اس نے برائی کی ہو گی۔ اور جو نیک عمل کرے گا، خواہ وہ مرد ہو یا عورت، بشرطیکہ ہو وہ مومن، ایسے سب لوگ جنت میں داخل ہوں گے جہاں ان کو بے حساب رزق دیا جائے گا۔ اے قوم، آخر یہ کیا ماجرا ہے کہ میں تو تم لوگوں کو نجات کی طرف بلاتا ہوں اور تم لوگ مجھے آگ کی طرف دعوت دیتے ہو! تم مجھے اس بات کی دعوت دیتے ہو کہ میں اللہ سے کفر کروں اور اس کے ساتھ ان ہستیوں کو شریک ٹھیراؤں جنہیں میں نہیں جانتا⁵⁷، حالانکہ میں تمہیں اس زبردست مغفرت کرنے والے خدا کی طرف بلا رہا ہوں۔ نہیں، حق یہ ہے اور اس کے خلاف نہیں ہو سکتا کہ جن کی طرف تم مجھے بلا رہے ہو ان کے لیے نہ دنیا میں کوئی دعوت ہے نہ آخرت میں⁵⁸، اور ہم سب کو پلٹنا اللہ ہی کی طرف ہے، اور حد سے گزرنے والے ⁵⁹ آگ میں جانے والے ہیں۔ آج جو کچھ میں کہہ رہا ہوں، عنقریب وہ وقت آئے گا جب تم اسے یاد کرو گے۔ اور اپنا معاملہ میں اللہ کے سپرد کرتا ہوں، وہ اپنے بندوں کا نگہبان ہے ’’۔⁶⁰
آخرکار ان لوگوں نے جو بری سے بری چالیں اس مومن کے خلاف چلیں، اللہ نے ان سب سے اس کو بچا لیا ⁶¹، اور فرعون کے ساتھی کو بدترین عذاب کے پھیر میں آ گئے ⁶²۔ دوزخ کی آگ ہے جس کے سامنے صبح و شام وہ پیش کیے جاتے ہیں، اور جب قیامت کی گھڑی آ جائے گی تو حکم ہو گا کہ آل فرعون کو شدید تر عذاب میں داخل کرو⁶³۔ پھر ذرا خیال کرو اس وقت کا جب یہ لوگ دوزخ میں ایک دوسرے سے جھگڑ رہے ہوں گے۔ دنیا میں جو لوگ کمزور تھے وہ بڑے بننے والوں سے کہیں گے کہ ’’ ہم تمہارے تابع تھے، اب کیا یہاں تم نار جہنم کی تکلیف کے کچھ حصے سے ہم کو بچالو گے؟‘‘⁶⁴وہ بڑے بننے والے جواب دیں گے ’’ ہم سب یہاں ایک حال میں ہیں، اور اللہ بندوں کے درمیان فیصلہ کر چکا ہے ‘‘⁶⁵۔ پھر یہ دوزخ میں پڑے ہوئے لوگ جہنم کے اہل کاروں سے کہیں گے ’’ اپنے رب سے دعا کرو کہ ہمارے عذاب میں بس ایک دن کی تخفیف کر دے ‘‘۔ وہ پوچھیں گے ‘‘ کیا تمہارے پاس تمہارے رسول بینات لے کر نہیں آتے رہے تھے؟‘‘ وہ کہیں گے ’’ہاں ‘‘ جہنم کے اہل کار بولیں گے : ’’ پھر تو تم ہی دعا کرو، اور کافروں کی دعا اکارت ہی جانے والی ہے⁶⁶ ‘‘۔ع

The man who had believed said, “O my people, follow me — I will guide you to the right path. O my people, this worldly life is but a temporary provision;⁵⁶ the everlasting abode is the Hereafter. Whoever does evil will be repaid only in equal measure to what he did, but whoever does righteous deeds — whether male or female — provided he is a believer, all such people will enter Paradise, where they will be given provision without limit. O my people, what is this state of affairs, that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire! You call me to disbelieve in Allah and to associate with Him beings I have no knowledge of,⁵⁷ while I call you to the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving. There is no denying that those you call me to have no claim to be invoked, either in this world or in the Hereafter,⁵⁸ and that our return is to Allah alone, and that transgressors⁵⁹ are the companions of the Fire. Soon you will remember what I am telling you today. I entrust my affair to Allah — He is the Watcher over His servants.“⁶⁰

In the end, whatever evil schemes they devised against him, Allah saved him from all of them,⁶¹ while Pharaoh’s people were overtaken by the worst of punishment.⁶² It is the Fire before which they are presented morning and evening, and when the Hour arrives, the command will be given: “Admit the people of Pharaoh into the severest punishment.“⁶³ Then consider the time when these people will be disputing with one another in the Fire. Those who were weak in the world will say to those who deemed themselves great, “We were your followers — will you now relieve us of some portion of the punishment of the Fire?“⁶⁴ Those who deemed themselves great will reply, “We are all in this together; Allah has already judged between His servants.“⁶⁵ Then those cast into the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, “Pray to your Lord to lighten our punishment for even one day.” They will ask, “Did your messengers not come to you with clear signs?” They will say, “Yes.” The keepers of Hell will say, “Then pray yourselves — though the prayer of the disbelievers goes to nothing but waste.“⁶⁶

اِنَّا لَنَنۡصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا فِی الۡحَیٰوۃِ الدُّنۡیَا وَ یَوۡمَ یَقُوۡمُ الۡاَشۡہَادُ ﴿ۙ۵۱﴾ یَوۡمَ لَا یَنۡفَعُ الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ مَعۡذِرَتُہُمۡ وَ لَہُمُ اللَّعۡنَۃُ وَ لَہُمۡ سُوۡٓءُ الدَّارِ ﴿۵۲﴾ وَ لَقَدۡ اٰتَیۡنَا مُوۡسَی الۡہُدٰی وَ اَوۡرَثۡنَا بَنِیۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِیۡلَ الۡکِتٰبَ ﴿ۙ۵۳﴾ ہُدًی وَّ ذِکۡرٰی لِاُولِی الۡاَلۡبَابِ ﴿۵۴﴾ فَاصۡبِرۡ اِنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰہِ حَقٌّ وَّ اسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۡۢبِکَ وَ سَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّکَ بِالۡعَشِیِّ وَ الۡاِبۡکَارِ ﴿۵۵﴾ اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ یُجَادِلُوۡنَ فِیۡۤ اٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ بِغَیۡرِ سُلۡطٰنٍ اَتٰہُمۡ ۙ اِنۡ فِیۡ صُدُوۡرِہِمۡ اِلَّا کِبۡرٌ مَّا ہُمۡ بِبَالِغِیۡہِ ۚ فَاسۡتَعِذۡ بِاللّٰہِ ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ السَّمِیۡعُ الۡبَصِیۡرُ ﴿۵۶﴾ لَخَلۡقُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ اَکۡبَرُ مِنۡ خَلۡقِ النَّاسِ وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۵۷﴾ وَ مَا یَسۡتَوِی الۡاَعۡمٰی وَ الۡبَصِیۡرُ ۬ۙ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ وَ لَا الۡمُسِیۡٓءُ ؕ قَلِیۡلًا مَّا تَتَذَکَّرُوۡنَ ﴿۵۸﴾ اِنَّ السَّاعَۃَ لَاٰتِیَۃٌ لَّا رَیۡبَ فِیۡہَا وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ ﴿۵۹﴾ وَ قَالَ رَبُّکُمُ ادۡعُوۡنِیۡۤ اَسۡتَجِبۡ لَکُمۡ ؕ اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ یَسۡتَکۡبِرُوۡنَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِیۡ سَیَدۡخُلُوۡنَ جَہَنَّمَ دٰخِرِیۡنَ ﴿٪۶۰﴾

یقین جانو کہ ہم اپنے رسولوں اور ایمان لاتے والوں کی مدد اس دنیا کی زندگی میں بھی لازماً کرتے ہیں،⁶⁷ اور اس روز بھی کریں گے جب گواہ کھڑے ہوں گے ⁶⁸، جب ظالموں کو ان کی معذرت کچھ بھی فائدہ نہ دے گی اور ان پر لعنت پڑے گی اور بد ترین ٹھکانا ان کے حصے میں آئے گا۔ آخر دیکھ لو کہ موسیٰ کی ہم نے رہنمائی کی⁶⁹اور بنی اسرائیل کو اس کتاب کا وارث بنا دیا جو عقل و دانش رکنے والوں کے لیے ہدایت و نصیحت تھی⁷⁰۔ پس اے نبیؐ، صبر کرو ⁷¹، اللہ کا وعدہ بر حق ہے ⁷²، اپنے قصور کی معافی چاہو⁷³ اور صبح و شام اپنے رب کی حمد کے ساتھ اس کی تسبیح کرتے رہو ⁷⁴۔ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ جو لوگ کسی سند و حجت کے بغیر جو ان کے پاس آئی ہو، اللہ کی آیات میں جھگڑے کر رہے ہیں ان کے دلوں میں کبر بھرا ہوا ہے ⁷⁵، مگر وہ اس بڑائی کو پہنچنے والے نہیں ہیں جس کا وہ گھمنڈ رکھتے ہیں ⁷⁶۔ بس اللہ پناہ مانگ لو⁷⁷، وہ سب کچھ دیکھتا اور سنتا ہے۔ 
آسمانوں ⁷⁸ اور زمین کا پیدا کرنا انسانوں کو پیدا کرنے کی بہ نسبت یقیناً زیادہ بڑا کام ہے، مگر اکثر لوگ جانتے نہیں ہیں ⁷⁹۔ اور یہ نہیں ہو سکتا کہ اندھا اور بینا یکساں ہو جائے اور ایماندار و صالح اور بد کار برابر ٹھیریں۔ مگر تم لوگ کم ہی کچھ سمجھتے ہو⁸⁰۔ یقیناً قیامت کی گھڑی آنے والی ہے، اس کے آنے میں کوئی شک نہیں، مگر اکثر لوگ نہیں مانتے ⁸¹۔
تمہارا رب⁸² کہتا ہے ’’ مجھے پکارو، میں تمہاری دعائیں قبول کروں گا⁸³، جو لوگ گھمنڈ میں آ کر میری عبادت سے منہ موڑتے ہیں، ضرور وہ ذلیل و خوار ہو کر جہنم میں داخل ہوں گے ‘‘⁸⁴۔ع

Know for certain that We surely help Our messengers and those who believe, both in the life of this world⁶⁷ and on the Day when the witnesses will stand forth⁶⁸ — a Day when no excuse will benefit the wrongdoers, when the curse will be upon them, and the worst abode will fall to their lot. Indeed, We guided Moses⁶⁹ and made the Children of Israel inheritors of the Book that was guidance and admonition for people of understanding.⁷⁰ So, O Prophet, be patient;⁷¹ Allah’s promise is true.⁷² Seek forgiveness for your shortcoming,⁷³ and glorify your Lord with His praise morning and evening.⁷⁴ The truth is that those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without any authority having come to them have nothing but arrogance filling their hearts,⁷⁵ but they will never attain the greatness they vainly aspire to.⁷⁶ So seek refuge in Allah⁷⁷ — He is the All-Seeing, the All-Hearing.

The creation of the heavens⁷⁸ and the earth is indeed a greater matter than the creation of mankind, but most people do not know.⁷⁹ The blind and the seeing cannot be equal, nor can those who believe and do righteous deeds be equal to the wicked — yet you understand but little.⁸⁰ Surely the Hour is coming; there is no doubt about it, yet most people do not believe.⁸¹

Your Lord⁸² says, “Call upon Me, and I will answer you.⁸³ Those who out of arrogance turn away from worshipping Me will surely enter Hell, utterly humbled.“⁸⁴

اَللّٰہُ الَّذِیۡ جَعَلَ لَکُمُ الَّیۡلَ لِتَسۡکُنُوۡا فِیۡہِ وَ النَّہَارَ مُبۡصِرًا ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ لَذُوۡ فَضۡلٍ عَلَی النَّاسِ وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَشۡکُرُوۡنَ ﴿۶۱﴾ ذٰلِکُمُ اللّٰہُ رَبُّکُمۡ خَالِقُ کُلِّ شَیۡءٍ ۘ لَاۤ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا ہُوَ ۫ۚ فَاَنّٰی تُؤۡفَکُوۡنَ ﴿۶۲﴾ کَذٰلِکَ یُؤۡفَکُ الَّذِیۡنَ کَانُوۡا بِاٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ یَجۡحَدُوۡنَ ﴿۶۳﴾ اَللّٰہُ الَّذِیۡ جَعَلَ لَکُمُ الۡاَرۡضَ قَرَارًا وَّ السَّمَآءَ بِنَآءً وَّ صَوَّرَکُمۡ فَاَحۡسَنَ صُوَرَکُمۡ وَ رَزَقَکُمۡ مِّنَ الطَّیِّبٰتِ ؕ ذٰلِکُمُ اللّٰہُ رَبُّکُمۡ ۚۖ فَتَبٰرَکَ اللّٰہُ رَبُّ الۡعٰلَمِیۡنَ ﴿۶۴﴾ ہُوَ الۡحَیُّ لَاۤ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا ہُوَ فَادۡعُوۡہُ مُخۡلِصِیۡنَ لَہُ الدِّیۡنَ ؕ اَلۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰہِ رَبِّ الۡعٰلَمِیۡنَ ﴿۶۵﴾ قُلۡ اِنِّیۡ نُہِیۡتُ اَنۡ اَعۡبُدَ الَّذِیۡنَ تَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰہِ لَمَّا جَآءَنِیَ الۡبَیِّنٰتُ مِنۡ رَّبِّیۡ ۫ وَ اُمِرۡتُ اَنۡ اُسۡلِمَ لِرَبِّ الۡعٰلَمِیۡنَ ﴿۶۶﴾ ہُوَ الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَکُمۡ مِّنۡ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنۡ نُّطۡفَۃٍ ثُمَّ مِنۡ عَلَقَۃٍ ثُمَّ یُخۡرِجُکُمۡ طِفۡلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبۡلُغُوۡۤا اَشُدَّکُمۡ ثُمَّ لِتَکُوۡنُوۡا شُیُوۡخًا ۚ وَ مِنۡکُمۡ مَّنۡ یُّتَوَفّٰی مِنۡ قَبۡلُ وَ لِتَبۡلُغُوۡۤا اَجَلًا مُّسَمًّی وَّ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تَعۡقِلُوۡنَ ﴿۶۷﴾ ہُوَ الَّذِیۡ یُحۡیٖ وَ یُمِیۡتُ ۚ فَاِذَا قَضٰۤی اَمۡرًا فَاِنَّمَا یَقُوۡلُ لَہٗ کُنۡ فَیَکُوۡنُ ﴿٪۶۸﴾

وہ اللہ ہی تو ہے جس نے تمہارے لیے رات بنائی تاکہ اس میں سکون حاصل کرو، اور دن کو روشن کیا۔ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ اللہ لوگوں پر بڑا فضل فرمانے والا ہے مگر اکثر لوگ شکر ادا نہیں کرتے ⁸⁵۔ وہی اللہ (جس نے تمہارے لیے یہ کچھ کیا ہے ) تمہارا رب ہے۔ ہر چیز کا خالق۔ اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں ⁸⁶۔ پھر تم کدھر سے بہکائے جا رہے ہو؟⁸⁷ اسی طرح وہ سب لوگ بہکائے جاتے رہے ہیں جو اللہ کی آیات کا انکار کرتے تھے ⁸⁸۔ 
وہ اللہ ہی تو ہے جس نے تمہارے لیے زمین کو جائے قرار بنایا⁸⁹ اور اوپر آسمان کا گنبد بنا دیا⁹⁰۔ جس نے تمہاری صورت بنائی اور بڑی ہی عمدہ بنائی۔ جس نے تمہیں پاکیزہ چیزوں کا رزق دیا⁹¹۔ وہی اللہ (جس کے یہ کام ہیں ) تمہارا رب ہے۔ بے حساب برکتوں سالا ہے وہ کائنات کا رب۔ وہی زندہ ہے ⁹²۔ اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ اسی کو تم پکارو اپنے دین کو اس کے لیے خالص کر کے ⁹³۔ ساری تعریف اللہ ربّ العالمین ہی کے لیے ہے ⁹⁴۔
اے نبیؐ، ان لوگوں سے کہہ دو کہ مجھے تو ان ہستیوں کی عبادت سے منع کر دیا گیا ہے جنھیں تم اللہ کو چھوڑ کر پکارتے ہو⁹⁵۔(میں یہ کام کیسے کر سکتا ہوں ) جبکہ میرے پاس میرے رب کی طرف سے بینات آ چکی ہیں۔ مجھے حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ میں رب العالمین کے آگے سرِ تسلیم خم کر دوں۔
وہی تو ہے جس نے تم کو مٹی سے پیدا کیا، پھر نطفے سے، پھر خون کے لوتھڑے سے، پھر وہ تمہیں بچّے کی شکل میں نکالتا ہے، پھر تمہیں بڑھاتا ہے تاکہ تم اپنی پوری طاقت کو پہنچ جاؤ،پھر اور بڑھاتا ہے تاکہ تم بڑھاپے کو پہنچو۔ اور تم میں سے کوئی پہلے ہی واپس بلا لیا جاتا ہے ⁹⁶۔ یہ سب کچھ اس لیے کیا جاتا ہے تاکہ تم اپنے مقرر وقت تک پہنچ جاؤ⁹⁷، اور اس لیے کہ تم حقیقت کو سمجھو⁹⁸۔ وہی ہے زندگی دینے والا، اور وہی ہے موت دینے والا ہے۔ وہ جس بات کا بھی فیصلہ کرتا ہے، بس ایک حکم دیتا ہے کہ وہ ہو جائے اور وہ ہو جاتی ہے۔ع 

It is Allah who made the night for you that you might find rest in it, and made the day bright. Indeed, Allah is most bountiful to mankind, yet most people do not give thanks.⁸⁵ That very Allah (who has done all this for you) is your Lord, the Creator of everything. There is no god but Him.⁸⁶ How then are you being turned away?⁸⁷ Thus were all those turned away who used to deny the signs of Allah.⁸⁸

It is Allah who made the earth a place of settlement for you⁸⁹ and raised the sky above as a canopy,⁹⁰ who shaped you and shaped you well, and who provided you with good and pure things.⁹¹ That very Allah (to whom these works belong) is your Lord. Blessed is He, the Lord of all the worlds. He alone is the Living.⁹² There is no god but Him. So call upon Him, making your faith sincerely His.⁹³ All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds.⁹⁴

O Prophet, say to them: “I have been forbidden to worship those whom you invoke besides Allah,⁹⁵ since clear signs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit myself to the Lord of all the worlds.”

It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you forth as an infant; then He lets you grow so that you reach your full strength, then further so that you reach old age — though some of you are taken back earlier.⁹⁶ All this is so that you may reach your appointed term⁹⁷ and that you may understand the reality.⁹⁸ He is the One who gives life and gives death. Whatever He decrees, He simply says to it “Be,” and it is.

اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَی الَّذِیۡنَ یُجَادِلُوۡنَ فِیۡۤ اٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ ؕ اَنّٰی یُصۡرَفُوۡنَ ﴿ۖۛۚ۶۹﴾ الَّذِیۡنَ کَذَّبُوۡا بِالۡکِتٰبِ وَ بِمَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡنَا بِہٖ رُسُلَنَا ۟ۛ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿ۙ۷۰﴾ اِذِ الۡاَغۡلٰلُ فِیۡۤ اَعۡنَاقِہِمۡ وَ السَّلٰسِلُ ؕ یُسۡحَبُوۡنَ ﴿ۙ۷۱﴾ فِی الۡحَمِیۡمِ ۬ۙ ثُمَّ فِی النَّارِ یُسۡجَرُوۡنَ ﴿ۚ۷۲﴾ ثُمَّ قِیۡلَ لَہُمۡ اَیۡنَ مَا کُنۡتُمۡ تُشۡرِکُوۡنَ ﴿ۙ۷۳﴾ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰہِ ؕ قَالُوۡا ضَلُّوۡا عَنَّا بَلۡ لَّمۡ نَکُنۡ نَّدۡعُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ شَیۡئًا ؕ کَذٰلِکَ یُضِلُّ اللّٰہُ الۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ ﴿۷۴﴾ ذٰلِکُمۡ بِمَا کُنۡتُمۡ تَفۡرَحُوۡنَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ الۡحَقِّ وَ بِمَا کُنۡتُمۡ تَمۡرَحُوۡنَ ﴿ۚ۷۵﴾ اُدۡخُلُوۡۤا اَبۡوَابَ جَہَنَّمَ خٰلِدِیۡنَ فِیۡہَا ۚ فَبِئۡسَ مَثۡوَی الۡمُتَکَبِّرِیۡنَ ﴿۷۶﴾ فَاصۡبِرۡ اِنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰہِ حَقٌّ ۚ فَاِمَّا نُرِیَنَّکَ بَعۡضَ الَّذِیۡ نَعِدُہُمۡ اَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّکَ فَاِلَیۡنَا یُرۡجَعُوۡنَ ﴿۷۷﴾ وَ لَقَدۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلًا مِّنۡ قَبۡلِکَ مِنۡہُمۡ مَّنۡ قَصَصۡنَا عَلَیۡکَ وَ مِنۡہُمۡ مَّنۡ لَّمۡ نَقۡصُصۡ عَلَیۡکَ ؕ وَ مَا کَانَ لِرَسُوۡلٍ اَنۡ یَّاۡتِیَ بِاٰیَۃٍ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِ اللّٰہِ ۚ فَاِذَا جَآءَ اَمۡرُ اللّٰہِ قُضِیَ بِالۡحَقِّ وَ خَسِرَ ہُنَالِکَ الۡمُبۡطِلُوۡنَ ﴿٪۷۸﴾

تم نے دیکھا ان لوگوں کو جو اللہ کی آیات میں جھگڑے کرتے ہیں، کہاں سے وہ پھرائے جا رہے ہیں؟ ⁹⁹ یہ لوگ جو اس کتاب کو اور ان کی ساری کتابوں کو جھٹلاتے ہیں جو ہم نے اپنے رسولوں کے ساتھ بھیجی تھیں؟¹⁰⁰عنقریب انہیں معلوم ہو جائے گا جب طوق ان کی گردنوں میں ہوں گے، اور زنجیریں، جن سے پکڑ کر وہ کھولتے ہوئے پانی کی طرف کھینچے جائیں گے اور پھر دوزخ کی آگ میں جھونک دیے جائیں گے ¹⁰¹۔پھر ان سے پوچھا جائے گا کہ اب کہاں ہیں اللہ کے سوا وہ دوسرے خدا جن کو تم شریک کرتے تھے؟¹⁰² وہ جواب دیں گے ’’ کھوئے گئے وہ ہم سے، بلکہ ہم اس سے پہلے کسی چیز کو نہ پکارتے تھے ‘‘¹⁰³۔ اس طرح اللہ کافروں کا گمراہ ہونا متحقق کر دے گا۔ ان سے کہا جائے گا ’’ یہ تمہارا انجام اس لیے ہوا ہے کہ تم زمین میں غیر حق پر مگن تھے اور پھر اس پر اتراتے تھے ¹⁰⁴۔ اب جاؤ، جہنم کے دروازوں میں داخل ہو جاؤ ہمیشہ تم کو وہیں رہنا ہے، بہت ہی برا ٹھکانا ہے متکبّرین کا‘‘۔ پس اے نبی، صبر کرو¹⁰⁵، اللہ کا وعدہ بر حق ہے۔ اب خواہ ہم تمہارے سامنے ہی ان کو ان برے نتائج کا کوئی حصہ دکھا دیں جن سے ہم انہیں ڈرا رہے ہیں، یا (اس سے پہلے ) تمہیں دنیا سے اٹھا لیں، پلٹ کر آنا تو انہیں ہماری ہی طرف ہے ¹⁰⁶۔
اے نبی¹⁰⁷، تم سے پہلے ہم بہت سے رسول بھیج چکے ہیں جن میں سے بعض کے حالات ہم نے تم کو بتائے ہیں اور بعض کے نہیں بتائے۔ کسی رسول کی بھی یہ طاقت نہ تھی کہ اللہ کے اذن کے بغیر خود کوئی نشانے ¹⁰⁸ لے آتا پھر جب اللہ کا حکم آگیا تو حق کے مطابق فیصلہ کر دیا گیا اور اس وقت غلط کار لوگ خسارے میں پڑ گئے ¹⁰⁹۔ع

Have you not seen those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah — how are they turned away?⁹⁹ These are the people who deny this Book and all the Books that We sent with Our messengers.¹⁰⁰ They will soon come to know, when shackles are around their necks, and chains, by which they will be dragged into boiling water, and then thrust into the Fire.¹⁰¹ Then it will be said to them, “Where now are those you used to associate as partners besides Allah?“¹⁰² They will say, “They have vanished from us — rather, we used to invoke nothing before.“¹⁰³ Thus does Allah confirm the straying of the disbelievers. It will be said to them, “This is your fate because you exulted upon the earth without right and were insolent in your joy.¹⁰⁴ Now enter the gates of Hell, to abide therein forever — how evil is the abode of the arrogant!”

So be patient, O Prophet,¹⁰⁵ Allah’s promise is true. Whether We show you some of what We threaten them with, or We take you [in death] before that, to Us they will be returned.¹⁰⁶

O Prophet,¹⁰⁷ We sent many messengers before you — of some We have told you, and of others We have not told you. It was not for any messenger to bring a sign¹⁰⁸ except by Allah’s permission. So when the command of Allah came, judgment was passed in truth, and there the wrongdoers were the losers.¹⁰⁹

اَللّٰہُ الَّذِیۡ جَعَلَ لَکُمُ الۡاَنۡعَامَ لِتَرۡکَبُوۡا مِنۡہَا وَ مِنۡہَا تَاۡکُلُوۡنَ ﴿۫۷۹﴾ وَ لَکُمۡ فِیۡہَا مَنَافِعُ وَ لِتَبۡلُغُوۡا عَلَیۡہَا حَاجَۃً فِیۡ صُدُوۡرِکُمۡ وَ عَلَیۡہَا وَ عَلَی الۡفُلۡکِ تُحۡمَلُوۡنَ ﴿ؕ۸۰﴾ وَ یُرِیۡکُمۡ اٰیٰتِہٖ ٭ۖ فَاَیَّ اٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ تُنۡکِرُوۡنَ ﴿۸۱﴾ اَفَلَمۡ یَسِیۡرُوۡا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَیَنۡظُرُوۡا کَیۡفَ کَانَ عَاقِبَۃُ الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِمۡ ؕ کَانُوۡۤا اَکۡثَرَ مِنۡہُمۡ وَ اَشَدَّ قُوَّۃً وَّ اٰثَارًا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَمَاۤ اَغۡنٰی عَنۡہُمۡ مَّا کَانُوۡا یَکۡسِبُوۡنَ ﴿۸۲﴾ فَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡہُمۡ رُسُلُہُمۡ بِالۡبَیِّنٰتِ فَرِحُوۡا بِمَا عِنۡدَہُمۡ مِّنَ الۡعِلۡمِ وَ حَاقَ بِہِمۡ مَّا کَانُوۡا بِہٖ یَسۡتَہۡزِءُوۡنَ ﴿۸۳﴾ فَلَمَّا رَاَوۡا بَاۡسَنَا قَالُوۡۤا اٰمَنَّا بِاللّٰہِ وَحۡدَہٗ وَ کَفَرۡنَا بِمَا کُنَّا بِہٖ مُشۡرِکِیۡنَ ﴿۸۴﴾ فَلَمۡ یَکُ یَنۡفَعُہُمۡ اِیۡمَانُہُمۡ لَمَّا رَاَوۡا بَاۡسَنَا ؕ سُنَّتَ اللّٰہِ الَّتِیۡ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ فِیۡ عِبَادِہٖ ۚ وَ خَسِرَ ہُنَالِکَ الۡکٰفِرُوۡنَ ﴿٪۸۵﴾

اللہ ہی نے تمہارے لیے یہ مویشی جانور بنائے ہیں تاکہ ان میں سے کسی پر تم سوار ہو اور کسی کا گوشت کھاؤ۔ ان کے اندر تمہارے لیے اور بھی بہت سے منافع ہیں۔ وہ اس کام بھی آتے ہیں کہ تمہارے دلوں میں جہاں جانے کی حاجت ہو وہاں تم ان پر پہنچ سکو۔ ان پر بھی اور کشتیوں پر بھی تم سوار کیے جاتے ہو۔ اللہ اپنی یہ نشانیاں تمہیں دکھا رہا ہے، آخر تم اس کی کن کن نشانیوں کا انکار کرو گے ¹¹⁰۔ 
پھر کیا¹¹¹ یہ زمین میں چلے پھرے نہیں ہیں کہ ان کو ان لوگوں کا انجام نظر آتا جو ان سے پہلے گزر چکے ہیں؟ وہ ان سے تعداد میں زیادہ تھے، ان سے بڑھ کر طاقتور تھے، اور زمین میں ان سے زیادہ شاندار آثار چھوڑ گئے ہیں۔ جو کچھ کمائی انہوں نے کی تھی، آخر وہ ان کے کس کام آئی؟ جب ان کے رسول ان کے پاس بینات لے کر آئے تو وہ اسی علم مگن رہے جو ان کے اپنے پاس تھا¹¹²۔ اور پھر اسی چیز کے پھیر میں آ گئے جس کا وہ مذاق اڑاتے تھے۔ جب انہوں نے ہمارا عذاب دیکھ لیا تو پکار اٹھے کہ ہم نے مان لیا اللہ وحدٗہ لاشریک کو اور ہم انکار کرتے ہیں ان سب معبودوں کا جنھیں ہم شریک ٹھیراتے تھے۔ مگر ہمارا عذاب دیکھ لینی کے بعد ان کا ایمان ان کے لیے کچھ بھی نفع نہ ہو سکتا تھا، کیوں کہ یہی اللہ کا مقرر ضابطہ ہے جو ہمیشہ اس کے بندوں میں جاری رہا ہے ¹¹³، اور اس وقت کافر لوگ خسارے میں پڑ گئے۔ ع

It is Allah who made these cattle for you, so that you may ride some of them and eat the flesh of others. In them are many other benefits for you as well — they carry you to places you need to reach, and it is by them, as well as by ships, that you are transported. Allah is showing you His signs — which, then, of Allah’s signs will you deny?¹¹⁰

Have they, then,¹¹¹ never travelled through the land that they might see what became of those who came before them? They were greater than them in number, mightier in strength, and left behind more impressive traces in the land — yet what they had earned availed them nothing in the end. When their messengers came to them with clear signs, they remained wholly content with the knowledge they already possessed,¹¹² and then were overtaken by the very thing they used to mock. So when they saw Our punishment, they cried out, “We believe in Allah alone, and we reject all the partners we used to associate with Him!” But their faith could not benefit them once they had seen Our punishment — for this is the established way of Allah that has always applied among His servants¹¹³ — and it was then that the disbelievers were the losers.
