ISLAM: A misunderstood faith, one paragraph

One common misunderstanding about Islam is that it was a brand-new religion invented by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in 7th-century Arabia. In reality, according to Islamic belief, Islam—meaning “submission to the one God (Allah)”—is the original and eternal faith that has existed since the first human beings were created and sent to earth. It is the same core message of monotheism and righteous living that was taught by all previous prophets, from Adam through Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus; Muhammad was simply the final messenger who received the Quran as the last, complete revelation to restore and preserve that timeless truth for humanity. Other frequent misunderstandings include the false ideas that Islam promotes violence or inherently oppresses women, when its core teachings emphasize peace, justice, and spiritual equality—though cultural practices in some societies have sometimes been conflated with the religion itself.
